Marina – Well prepared from the bye week and the return of star Quarterback Noah Cryns, Pacific Grove Varsity Football opens the regular season with a comfortable win against the Marina Mariners.
The game greeted Cryns well after he missed the previous game against Fremont due to illness when he scored a rushing touchdown with 10:51 left in the first quarter.
The Breakers dominated throughout the second quarter, where Cryns totaled 5 touchdowns for the first half. With 9:42 left in the half, a completed pass to Kane Miller from Cryns resulted in a touchdown and expanded the Breaker’s lead to two touchdowns over a scoreless Marina. Not two minutes later led to yet another passing touchdown, this time to Nick Coppla. Marina’s only points before the half, however, would be a safety with just 5 minutes left in the second quarter. Cryns’s fifth touchdown of the half was another passing touchdown to Coppla for the second time to send the Breakers with the lead at the half for the first time this season.
The second half proved much more relaxed, but not complacent, for the Breakers, realized with the coaches swapping in second and third string players. In the third quarter, however, Marina would be able to finally score a touchdown, and a two-point conversion, with 4:33 left in the third quarter. In the end, the Breakers beat the visiting Marina team 42 – 10 for the regular season opener.
PG Varsity Football hopes to keep the momentum into the next week of the regular season (2 – 2 / 1 – 0 MTAL). The Breakers play Stevenson next week at home on Friday, September 30 for the Homecoming Game.
