Greenfield – The PG Varsity Football team secured their fifth victory this season with a commanding performance for Senior Night on Friday against the Greenfield Bruins.
For the uninformed, Senior Night commemorates the seniors and their work in the football team, dance team, cheer squad, and band. To celebrate, the opening plays of the game featured only seniors, even though most of the starters are seniors anyway. The game did not, however, start as well as the Breakers had hoped, as Greenfield scored the first points with a touchdown just 11:46 left in the first quarter.
The Breakers could not respond on a scoring basis until the beginning of the next quarter, when Noah Cryns managed a rushing touchdown, but a failed two-point conversion kept the Breakers behind Greenfield. The Breakers would not get, and keep, the lead until late in the half with a rushing touchdown, this time with a successful two-point conversion to Kane Miller, putting the Breakers up a touchdown going into halftime.
After the aforementioned Senior Night festivities, the second half continued in the Breakers’ favor, highlighted by a return touchdown from Nick Coppla to open the half. PG continued to expand their lead later in the third quarter with another rushing touchdown by Cryns with 3:35 left in the third quarter.
The largest lead for the Breakers resulted in the fourth quarter with another touchdown from Coppla with about 9 minutes left in the game to give the Breakers a 4 touchdown lead. Greenfield would eventually score just one more touchdown with seconds left in the game to bring the final score to 35 – 13, another win for the Varsity Football team.
The Breakers look to maintain their momentum into the last week before the Shoe Game (5 – 3 / 4 – 1 MTAL). The Breakers play Soledad next week at Soledad on Friday October 28.
