Newsbreaker News: The Hype for Winter Sports

The excitement for basketball, soccer, and wrestling begins as fall sports draw to a close. Participants of various sports told the NewsBreaker about their hopes for the upcoming season.

The girls’ basketball team started their season Monday November 20th with a sportsmanship game. “We have a very young team. There’s ten girls,” remarked student body president and basketball player Kulaea Tulua. In terms of the team, she told the NewsBreaker that they “are looking forward to a very energetic and great season.”

Boys basketball also looks forward to the start of their season. JV player Blake Moore, a sophomore, looks forward to the simple joys of playing a sport, not just potential victory. “I’m just looking forward to being part of a team and competing,” he explained.

Having played their first game on Tuesday, November 28th, girls’ soccer prepares for more games with the goal of excelling. Senior and Varsity player Jada Ware hopes for success in both playing form and games. She told the NewsBreaker she looks forward “to a really strong and well played season. Hopefully it will get us the league title.”

Like girls’ soccer, boys’ soccer also hopes for the best this season. Freshmen soccer players Caleb Huddleston, Alex Carmichael, and Donovan Dearmin discussed their goals for the season. “In this soccer season, we are looking forward to a win streak and we think that we will have a very successful season,” Huddleston remarked while talking to the NewsBreaker.

After last year’s victorious season, the wrestlers return again this winter. Sophomore Gavin Whiteside hopes to repeat last year’s success, additionally showing his interest in recruiting more wrestlers for the team. “I hope as a team we can get some more wrestlers and win MTALs again,” expressed Whiteside.

With all the excitement and hype surrounding winter sports, Pacific Grove High School definitely has the capacity for victory this athletic trimester.
