Help the award-winning PG music programs become even better
Pacific Grove Music Boosters exists to support youth music in Pacific Grove, California.
PG’s award-winning music programs rely on ongoing contributions from Pacific Grove Music Boosters for many different initiatives, including employment of visiting master musicians to help students hone their skills, purchasing new instruments and repairing old ones, payment of competition entrance fees, distribution of scholarships to students with financial need, awarding scholarships to outstanding music students, and many other items necessary to support PG’s award winning music programs!
Every year, membership fees and membership donations provide approximately one-third of the total financial support for PG Music Boosters, while two-thirds of the group’s budget is funded by sponsorships from local music teachers and local businesses as well as grants from other charitable organizations.
PG Music Boosters began in the 1970’s as an organization to support the Pacific Grove High School Band. The group registered and obtained the status of a tax exempt 501 c(3) organization in 1975 as the Pacific Grove High School Band Boosters. Some of the members of the PGHS Band Boosters helped form the Pacific Grove Marching Band Festival that sponsored a marching band competition from 1979 until 2006. Although the Marching Band Festival was a separate organization, close ties to the PGHS Band Boosters helped to support and sustain the festival for many great years of marching band competitions held each year in the fall. The Marching Band Festival through proceeds collected from this event helped to support educational programs in the Pacific Grove School District along with the boosters. The PGHS Band Boosters spearheaded a drive to replace the band uniforms in the late 1990’s, which have been used ever since.
The Pacific Grove High School Band Boosters worked primarily to support a variety of activities and needs for the music groups at the high school. Recognizing that the music directors and programs at other Pacific Grove schools also needed support, the Pacific Grove High School Band Boosters decided to expand to become a district-wide program in 2007. The group’s by-laws were rewritten in June 2007 to become the Pacific Grove Music Boosters to provide support for Pacific Grove Middle School, Robert Down and Forest Grove Elementary Schools as well as continuing to support the music programs at Pacific Grove High School.
