Dear PGHS Athletic Community,
First, I want to introduce myself as the new Athletic Director at Pacific Grove High and express my excitement to be taking over this position from Chris Morgan who will be retiring. I want to thank Chris for his leadership and dedication to our school over the past 15 years as a history teacher, football coach and athletic director. .
As a teacher and coach for 22 years at Pacific Grove High, I have gained a unique perspective on athletics at Pacific Grove High. In my opinion, the ultimate goal of our teams is to teach leadership and teamwork along with individual core values that each coach believes in. I hope to continue our outstanding tradition of athletic excellence and I am excited to get started in leading our athletic department. My ultimate goal is to provide an outstanding experience for every student-athlete, coach and parent at Pacific Grove High School.
Our fall sports season will begin the first week of school in early August. Our first day of school is August 6th. Please see the attachment with the specific start dates for each individual fall sport. Please note that football has an earlier start date than the rest of the fall sports.. Also, we will have our Fall Sportsmanship Night on Tuesday August 13th. More information to come, but please save the date.
All athletes will need to have a sports physical completed to try out for a sport once school starts. If a student-athlete wants to try out for a sport during the school season, they must first get cleared for participation in any athletic event through the school. Athletic Clearance Instructions Link For questions, please contact Felicia Afifi, fafifi@pgusd.org.
Finally, we are providing you with information on our upcoming summer athletic programs that are being offered at Pacific Grove High School. Summer sports are a great way to provide additional training and opportunities to build teamwork. Each sport will have their own training program and schedule in the summer. Please note the following about our summer programs:
They are voluntary- attendance is encouraged but not required.
These are not tryouts- all sports will have tryouts once their season begins in the fall/winter/spring. .
Summer athletics are open to all incoming freshmen and rising freshmen, sophomores and juniors.
Please let me know if you have any questions about the information enclosed. I look forward to serving the Pacific Grove community in my new position as Athletic Director.
All the best,
Dan Powers
